Frequently Asked Questions
What is the ideal sodium-to-potassium ratio for athletes?
Sweat sodium losses range from roughly 400 to 1,500mg per litre depending on the athlete and the environment; sweat potassium losses run roughly 100 to 250mg per litre. The 2.5:1 to 4:1 sodium-to-potassium ratio in our Sport blend (Na 500mg + K 200mg, 2.5:1) and Endurance blend (Na 700mg + K 300mg, 2.3:1) reflects the upper end of sweat replacement for moderate-output training. For ultra-endurance events in heat, brands often raise the sodium-only floor without changing the potassium target. We adjust either mineral in 50mg increments without R&D cost on stock blends.
Stick packs or tubs, which format to launch first?
Stick packs convert better on DTC and subscription (single-serve precision, no scooping, easy gym-bag carry) but carry a higher per-serving cost and a 3,000-unit MOQ per flavour. Tubs cost less per serving, start at 500 units, and dominate Amazon and gym retail because consumers buying through review-driven channels accept the scoop friction in exchange for value. Most brands we onboard launch stick packs first for the brand-building DTC story, then add a tub SKU at the 3-6 month mark once they have flavour data from real customers. If you are launching into Amazon as the primary channel, start with a tub.
Can you formulate sugar-free without sweetener after-taste?
Yes. After-taste in sugar-free electrolyte powders comes from one of three sources: the sweetener (stevia bitterness from Reb-A, sucralose metallic finish), the mineral salt selection (magnesium oxide carries a chalky after-taste; magnesium glycinate or malate does not), or the acidulant (high citric acid loads taste sour). Our standard sugar-free build uses Reb-M stevia or monk fruit at the lower end of the sweetness curve, magnesium as glycinate or malate, and a balanced citric-malic acidulant blend. We run side-by-side prototypes against the closest competitor product so your team can taste the difference before sign-off.
How do you ensure dose accuracy in single-serve sticks?
Our sachet lines run weight-checkweighers in line with the fill heads, with automated rejection of any pack outside the target fill tolerance (typically +/- 3% of stated net weight for a 5-7g sachet). Mineral content per pack is verified by ICP-MS on the finished blend before fill, and again on a representative sample of finished sachets, against the claimed mg per serving on the label. Label claims are set with a 10% overage on water-sensitive minerals (magnesium glycinate, potassium citrate) to hold the stated mg through 24-month shelf life under standard storage conditions.
Custom flavour MOQ and lead time?
Stock flavours from our active bank (lemon-lime, orange, watermelon, mixed berry, mango, pineapple-coconut, unflavoured) carry no flavour-development MOQ and add no lead time beyond standard 30-40 day production. A fully custom flavour profile (e.g. yuzu-ginger, hibiscus-rose, prickly pear) adds 2-3 weeks of bench-top prototyping and a flavour-house minimum that varies by complexity; typical custom flavours we have built run a 1,000-1,500 unit minimum at first run to amortise the flavour-house setup. Once developed, the custom flavour drops to the standard MOQ for reorders.
Effervescent tablets versus powder, cost difference?
Effervescent tablets run roughly 1.8 to 2.3x the per-serving manufacturing cost of powder stick packs for an equivalent mineral payload, driven by the tablet-press tooling cycle, the acid-bicarbonate effervescent base (additional formulation weight without active value), and the tube-fill packaging (10-20 tablets per tube versus 30-60 sachets per carton). Effervescents win on premium positioning, retail shelf differentiation against powder-saturated categories, and travel-friendly packaging. Most brands run effervescents as a hero SKU at $1.50-2.00 per serving retail and sustain margin against a powder hero at $0.75-1.10 per serving.
Can you include caffeine, and what are the regulatory considerations?
Yes, our Endurance blend supports an optional 100mg caffeine inclusion, and we formulate caffeine into custom blends up to 200mg per serving. The FDA treats caffeine in dietary supplements as a GRAS ingredient at moderate levels and has issued public guidance flagging concerns around pure powdered caffeine sold direct to consumers (not relevant to finished electrolyte blends at standard doses). Above 200mg per serving the label must carry a caffeine-content disclosure and a "not for children" warning, and we recommend a structure-function claim review with our regulatory team before artwork approval. We do not include caffeine in the Pediatric or Prenatal blends under any circumstance.
What is the sample programme cost and turnaround?
Sample kits run $150 base for the first SKU (which covers shipping via UPS to most destinations) and $20 per additional SKU on the same shipment. A typical electrolyte sample kit covers 2-4 prototype variants of one blend, with multiple flavour and sweetener combinations for your team to evaluate. Sample turnaround is post-onboarding logistics rather than a first-contact promise; once we have your brief and the formulation direction is agreed, the sample build runs in parallel with standard quote turnaround (48 hours) and ships within roughly 5 business days of formulation sign-off. Full SOP details available in our sample programme overview.

Formulation Library: 8 Electrolyte Blends + 5 Format Options
The global electrolyte supplement market is on track to grow from $41.8 billion to $89.4 billion by 2036 at 7.9% CAGR, and the search term 'electrolyte drink mix' has expanded close to 2,000% year-over-year. Three brands (LMNT, Liquid IV, Drip Drop) define the consumer template now: precise milligrams per electrolyte printed on the front label, single-serve format, and a clear use-case (sport, keto, daily, recovery). Our formulation library is built to that template. We publish the full mineral panel for 8 blend types up front (Na, K, Mg, Ca, optional Zn and B-complex) so brand owners pick on numbers, not on flavour artwork. Every blend ships out of our FDA-registered Shenzhen facility under 21 CFR Part 111 cGMP, with COA per batch through ISO 17025 partner labs. Below is the library: pick a stock blend, modify any single mineral, or commission a clean-sheet ratio.
Our 8 stock blends cover the eight commercial use-cases driving the category. Sport (Na 500mg + K 200mg + Mg 60mg + Ca 100mg per serving) for high-output training. Keto (Na 1,000mg + K 1,000mg + Mg 300mg) for low-carb sodium compensation. Hydration Daily (Na 300mg + K 250mg + Mg 100mg + Ca 50mg + Zn 5mg) for everyday wellness. Hangover (Na 500mg + K 300mg + Mg 200mg + B-complex + 300mg DHM) for recovery. Pediatric (Na 200mg + K 150mg + Mg 30mg, taste-led flavour) for kids and family. Endurance (Na 700mg + K 300mg + Mg 150mg + 15-20g carbohydrate, optional 100mg caffeine) for marathon and ultra. Prenatal (Na 200mg + K 200mg + Mg 200mg + 600mcg methylfolate + 25mg B6) for pregnancy and nursing. Plant-Based (coconut water powder base + Atlantic sea salt + monk fruit, full mineral panel from food sources) for clean-label DTC. Each blend exists as a validated formula on our shelf; minor mineral adjustments cost no R&D time.
Five formats compete for the shelf, and they are not interchangeable on cost or channel. Single-serve stick packs (5-7g, foil-wrapped) are the highest-converting DTC format and run a 3,000-unit MOQ per SKU. Multi-serve tubs (30-90 servings) carry the lowest per-serving cost and start at 500 units, our standard powder MOQ. Effervescent tablets (Alka-Seltzer style in tubes of 10-20) command premium retail pricing and start at 2,500 tubes. Ready-to-drink bottles (12-16oz) run roughly 5x the per-serving manufacturing cost of powder and are reserved for brands with a $4-6 retail price point and strong refrigerated channel placement. Capsules (HPMC, 2-4 per serving) eliminate taste and carb load for the keto and carnivore segments and start at 500 bottles. The format choice cascades into print MOQ, freight class, shelf life, and which retailer will list you. We size the conversation on your channel before we pick the format.
Flavour library and sweetener system are decided independently of mineral ratio. Our active flavour bank includes citrus (lemon-lime, orange, grapefruit, mango), berry (raspberry, mixed berry, watermelon), tropical (pineapple-coconut, passion fruit), unflavoured (for keto and carnivore consumers who mix into bone broth), and seasonal limited runs. Sweetener options span stevia (Reb-A or Reb-M for cleaner finish), monk fruit, allulose, erythritol, sucralose, ace-K, cane sugar (for endurance carb-loaded SKUs), and no-sweetener builds. Natural colour compliance is built in: every red and pink uses beet, hibiscus, or carmine alternatives; every blue uses spirulina or butterfly pea; every yellow uses turmeric or beta-carotene. Where a brand wants synthetic FD&C colours for cost or vibrancy, we flag the trade-off against retailer clean-label policies before formula sign-off. The full sweetener-and-flavour decision sits inside the prototype sampling round, not the quote stage.
Our Manufacturing Process
From initial concept to finished product, every step is managed under one roof with dedicated quality oversight and transparent communication.
Blend selection or custom ratio sheet
Pick one of the 8 stock blends, modify any single mineral (e.g. Sport with potassium raised to 300mg), or hand us a clean-sheet ratio sheet. Our formulators size the recipe against your target serving size (5g, 7g, or 10g sachet; 15-25g effervescent; 8-12 capsule serving) and confirm dose accuracy is achievable on our high-speed lines.
Flavour, sweetener and colour prototyping
Two to four prototype variants ship for your team to taste in cold water (4 degrees C) and room-temperature water. We refine sweetness curve, after-taste, mixability time, foam profile, and visual colour intensity. Cold-water solubility testing is mandatory for any stick-pack format because consumers shake into a bottle and expect a 15-second dissolve.
Production with mineral-content QC
Manufacturing runs on our high-speed sachet, tub-fill, or tablet-press lines with real-time weight monitoring at single-gram fill accuracy. Every batch is third-party tested for mineral content (ICP-MS for Na, K, Mg, Ca, Zn), heavy metals (lead, arsenic, cadmium, mercury), moisture, microbial load, and label-claim verification. COA ships with every pallet.
Packaging and ship to your 3PL
Choose from foil-wrapped stick packs, resealable powder tubs, effervescent tubes, RTD bottles, or amber HPMC capsule bottles. We handle lot coding, secondary cartoning, and ship bulk on pallets to your warehouse, 3PL (ShipHype, Fulfyld, ShipBob, ShipMonk, Easyship), or Amazon FBA prep. UPS is our default carrier; sea freight runs 30-45 business days, air freight 5-10.

Key Benefits for Your Brand
Every aspect of our electrolyte supplements manufacturing is designed to accelerate your time-to-market while maintaining uncompromising quality standards.
Sport and Endurance blends with carb co-transport
Our Sport blend delivers Na 500mg + K 200mg + Mg 60mg + Ca 100mg per serving for training under 60 minutes. The Endurance blend adds 15-20g of carbohydrate (glucose plus fructose 2:1 for the sodium-glucose co-transport pathway) and optional 100mg caffeine for marathon, century rides, and ultra events. Both are validated against the ACSM-referenced sodium replacement range for high-output athletes.
Keto and Carnivore mineral compensation
The Keto blend (Na 1,000mg + K 1,000mg + Mg 300mg per serving) is sized to offset the diuretic effect of carbohydrate restriction and the resulting sodium-potassium loss. Available as a sweetener-free unflavoured stick (mixes into bone broth or water) for the carnivore segment, or with stevia and citrus flavour for keto consumers wanting a palatable hydration drink. Zero added carbohydrate.
Pediatric and Prenatal niche openings
Two underserved segments. Pediatric (Na 200mg + K 150mg + Mg 30mg, taste-led with stevia or allulose) is sized for kids 4-12 with paediatric ORS-style logic without the medical positioning. Prenatal (Na 200mg + K 200mg + Mg 200mg + 600mcg methylfolate + 25mg B6) supports first-trimester nausea management and is dosed below the obstetric upper-tier for routine maternity-aisle retail.
Hangover and recovery functional add-ins
Hangover blend layers Na 500mg + K 300mg + Mg 200mg with a full B-complex (B1, B2, B6, B12, niacin, pantothenic acid) and 300mg dihydromyricetin (DHM), the dominant ingredient in the hangover supplement category. DHM is fully compliant with 21 CFR Part 111 as a dietary ingredient. Sold as stick packs or single-tube effervescents for nightlife channel placement.
Plant-Based DTC clean-label build
Coconut water powder base delivers naturally occurring potassium and trace minerals; Atlantic or Mediterranean sea salt provides sodium plus the trace-mineral story that drives premium positioning. Monk fruit sweetens, hibiscus or beet provides natural colour. The full label reads as four to six recognised food ingredients, which clears retail clean-label policies (Whole Foods, Erewhon, Thrive Market) that exclude isolated mineral salts.
